Hello! My name is Kim Martin. I am happy to say I am starting my 32nd year at TPHS. I have been in the school system for 34 years total as I was a teacher's aide at Rural Vale for 2 years. I am the social studies dept chair and am the head sponsor of the JUNIOR class. It is also my honor & privilege to coordinate the Veteran's Day program at our school each year.
About me: I am from Madisonville and a graduate of Madisonville High School. I am a fur baby mommy to my adorable Pomeranian, Daisy. I love anything to do with summer, especially reading at my pool or at the beach. Myrtle Beach is my favorite! I am a HUGE Gone With the Wind fan (thanks to my high school English class many years ago) and collect GWTW memorabilia. I celebrate a July 4th birthday with my twin brother, Kirk, so patriotism is BIG with me!
American History is a DUAL CREDIT class. This means that the class will incorporate practices that students may see in college, with note taking and test prepping as a big part. A challenge exam will be given at the end of the semester that consists of 75 multiple choice questions and (1) essay question. If a student scores an 75% on the exam, they will earn a college credit in U.S. History.
Students will have quizzes based on their notes/PPTs and will receive a study guide for their topic summary tests. This will put responsibility on the student to keep an organized folder, take complete notes, and study more thoroughly for the summary tests. The class will consist of a required folder for a grade, summary tests, quizzes, and homework. There will also be a civics poster project that is required by the state.
The class will begin with Reconstruction and continue through the decades up until present day, as time will allow in class.
